MOVING OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY
What the roadblocks are made of

As humans we are so full. Full of thoughts, opinions, beliefs, perspectives, sensations and emotions. So full of ideas, movements, projects, expectations, hopes and dreams. We are full content. The content of life fills the entirety of the space of ourselves. This fullness leaves no space for us to recognize the essence of life. The force that makes things come alive, that breathes life, beats our hearts and enables us to be full of content. Most people have no idea at all what that even is. They haven’t for a single moment of their waking life recognized life. We are so full of content and so empty of life. It’s not that life isn’t here, obviously it is or you wouldn’t be here right now, it’s simply that you are not paying attention to it. Our focus is fused with our thoughts and locked in our beliefs and we don’t see anything but our limited perspectives.
This perfectly points to why it seems like we can’t have what we want, whether that is a thing, person or state of being. We won’t even be able to perceive what we want unless it shows up as the exact picture our mind has painted about what it is supposed to be. We are in a tunnel where we only see one way through and we don’t even know it. When we are so full of stuff and it seems like something is in our way, we almost never perceive that what is in our way is our very own self. It always seems like it is something or someone else that is messing with our flow. We think if only this or that situation changed or this or that person behaved differently then we could have what we desired. The thing is that it is our ideas about that thing or that person, and not the thing or person itself that interferes. This is not hard to see, it’s just that we don’t want to look. If we look then we have take responsibility for our very own selves and most people, despite how spiritual or empowered they think they are or want to be, still want someone else to live their life for them.
Why is this? It’s because it’s hard work to be a self. To be fully accountable for your experience of life takes all the energy out of blame, shame, powerlessness and victimization. Most people get energy, significance & a sense of rightness by holding the perspective that someone or something is the reason for their experience. There is zero ownership and no action required, which means you get to stay where you are looping in your stories about why you can’t have what you want and all the while being the biggest rock and the largest roadblock to the very thing you desire. Without ownership for your life you will perceive problems that have no solution or answer. With ownership you figure out a way to have the life you want no matter what you have chosen & been given.
WHAT’S REALLY REAL?
The light shining through

When we find a way to be empty of content even for just a few moments we experience a peace so vast and a restfulness so deeply nourishing that it seems impossible that we would ever leave it, but then, just like that, we do. We lock into our thoughts and fuse with the fears and sensations they create in our body. When we do this we become unconscious. We are still focalized in or with our body and we think we are conscious, but we are not home. Our programs, beliefs and scripts about what we think is happening rule our life. We identify as those programs and scripts. We think that they are who we are and because of this we perceive only dead ends. We can’t see, and feel like we don’t know, not because we don’t, but because we are not there. This can seem confusing particularly when the only way we have known ourselves is through the thoughts and beliefs we have had about who we think we are. When our identity is merged with the content of mind we are lost.
But what if all of the thoughts you have about yourself and about everyone else are not true, then what? This is the first place where possibility arises and receptivity becomes available to you. Previous to this you are not receptive. You are not open to life, which means you can’t know or see it and therefore can’t know or see yourself. You are cut off from life, which is what you are. This is why it seems so bleak and is the home of helplessness and hopelessness. It can feel dark here, but get this – not because it’s actually dark – but because you are not there to illuminate and bring life to where you are. When we are in this place we are unreachable. We don’t want anyone to bring us out of it because it doesn’t seem possible and it would mean loss of what we know. We our grasping onto the illusion of our thoughts and stories because they seem like the only real and valid thing. To not entertain them feels like denying ourselves.
So where do we go from here? How do we get out of our own way? How do we wake ourselves from the dream of our painful stories and limiting beliefs? Whatever you are feeling find a way to acknowledge it and feel it. Realize you aren’t the feeling, but that you are something more, even though you don’t know what that is yet. Get curious and challenge your thoughts, beliefs and perspectives. Begin to see how you create them and how they inform your experience. See your choice to choose whatever you want no matter the circumstances. See more and more that you are not trapped inside of your body or inside of your experience. Let what you thought you knew release itself from you and find yourself in the open expanse of possibility. Now that you are open you can receive. You aren’t attached to outcome, only to the recognition of your being as primary and the content of your mind as secondary. Become a channel for light and see your true self as the light. Find a way to share what you now know with others. Rinse and repeat until you can no longer leave yourself and are fully home inside of yourself because you’ve seen through every story of pain and separation, which has perpetuated your suffering.
Anything you decide is real is real. Anything you choose that you can do, you can. Limitation lives only as a concept in our mind. This doesn’t mean that life circumstances & your body’s sensations will always be your preference, rather it means they no longer determine how or who you are. This is getting out of your own way so that the you that is the actual you can inhabit your body & live life through it.
